Leather Guitar Straps Acoustic

How do I attach my guitar strap?
I just got my first acoustic guitar, I have no idea how to attach my strap to it. The strap has a flat leather piece with a slit in it, (which I am guessing fastens over the rest located on the bottom of the instrument) but the top of the strap has a few shoestring like ties on it. I have no idea how to attach the top part, someone told me that normally, the guitar would have a place for the tie to thread through but I don’t see one of those. I would really appreciate a simple explanation of how to do this. Also, if anyone has any recommendations good websites, books, or videos for beginners, please let me know.
OK. Your guitar strap should have a flat leather piece at each end with a slit . One end has the ties on it as well. On the bottom of your guitar should be a metal button (the end button) , and, as you rightly say, the slit in the end of the strap fits over that. Some acoustic guitars have another button at the other end of the body, at the base of the neck, where you can put the slit in the other end of the strap. (If there isn’t one they are easy to fit or have fitted).
Alternatively, take the end with the ties to the top of the neck. Push one pf the ties under the strings, behind the top nut that the strings go over. Take it round to meet the other tie, round the back of the neck, and tie the 2 ends together. Adjust the strap length to suit you. If I can be of further help, please go to my profile and email me.
God bless you, and hope this helps.
